Fishing tournament opens a new profile of tourism – Credit: Edemir Rodriguez
“There will be no limit to tourism here,” says 42-year-old businessman Pedro Henrique Garces, owner of the Fazenda Genipapo Hotel, one of Bonito’s top attractions in the Aguas de Miranda district, anticipating the future with asphalt on MS-345 and incentives from state and municipal governments to exploit the fishing potential of the region.
The holding of the 1st Aguas de Miranda Sport Fishing Festival from 13 to 15 May is considered a new milestone for the area, which will directly benefit from the paving of the old Estrada do 21 road – 100 km from BR-419. in the center of the city of Bonito with an investment of 95.6 million reais from the state. The work is real: there are four fronts.
Improved access, shortening the distance between Campo Grande and Bonito by 70km, makes sport fishing one of the award-winning destination’s top attractions and will make the area more visible on the state’s tourism map. Aguas de Miranda, located 180 km from the capital and 70 km from Bonito on the MS-345 highway, has an excellent hotel structure (600 beds) and services.
“The asphalt and the support of the state and the city hall will bring more progress and change the profile of our tourism, attracting even tourists who go to Bonito, who often do not know the fisheries of our river (Miranda),” notes Leia Resende, who, along with her husband Renato Falcao manages Cabana do Pescador, one of the largest local fisheries.
Based on this watershed, the company, located on the outskirts of Miranda and 10 km from the village, is one of the supporters of the Sport Fishing Festival (fish-and-leisure mode), in which 60 teams will take part in adult competitions, which will take place on 14 (Saturday). The event attracts sports fishermen from Mato Grosso do Sul and other states such as Sao Paulo and Paraná.
“We are giving our full attention to Aguas de Miranda, preparing the area for the development it will have with asphalt,” says Bonite Mayor Josmail Rodriguez. “We will have a Department of Tourism in our district, which by the end of the year will have an ambulance, a waste processing complex, a sanitary network and an entrance portal,” he says.
Josmail thanks the state government for investing in the municipality, which amounts to 300 million reais in work in progress and new projects, saying that the former Minister of Infrastructure Eduardo Riedel “is the builder along with Governor Reinaldo Azambuja of the municipal government.” it will transform Bonito and the entire state.”
The fishing tournament, according to the mayor, opens up a new tourism profile that is encouraged to attract family groups, a goal supported by businessmen, as well as to promote other activities such as bird watching. “We are donating territory to the military police to guarantee greater security due to the increase in the flow of tourists,” he said.
Aguas de Miranda has an Ecological Military Police (PMA) unit that will have police reinforcements from Aquidahuana during the tournament, and Bonito City Hall already claims the presence of the state traffic police to control traffic when the pavement on MS is completed. .-345. The main access road to the destination, via the motorway, will have heavy vehicular traffic.
As the paving work continues, sections of the rock require blasting containing up to 1,800 kg of dynamite, as happened last week at Section 4, an area founded in the 1970s is in the process of being transformed. An atmosphere of enthusiasm is taking care of 6,000 residents through increased tourism and job creation.
“Our time has come, asphalt has been a great dream and the Fishing Festival will open its doors,” celebrates 52-year-old businesswoman Sonia Maria Perchigili, who manages Pesqueiro Santa Ynez and is the representative of the mayor’s office in the area. “We will be discovered by Brazil with the fishing and nature tourism incentives we get from the state and municipality.”
For the owner of the Hotel-Fazenda Genipapo, Pedro Henrique Garces, the new entrepreneurial mentality and government investments are already changing this tourism profile. “The fisherman no longer wants to fish and is more interested in nature. With asphalt, MS-345 will turn into a park road that will attract lovers of pedal and motor adventures,” he comments.
The first sport fishing festival in Aguas de Miranda is part of the region’s development plan, which includes the restructuring, promotion and organization of the segment by the city of Bonito. The event promotes the tourism chain and reveals the excellent structure that the area has to offer the visitor, from hotels, inns and ranches to strong commerce.
“Here in Miranda you can catch all kinds of fish, but the dourado is the most popular and is caught long after the government banned catching,” said Enrique Filho, 27, a businessman who runs a fishing business. “Our tourism is growing, and with asphalt, the village will attract many investors and become a new municipality,” he said.
Enrique is one of the organizers of the tournament and is responsible for the registration of teams (information via Whatts App 67 99629.5622). Registration fee (60 teams participate in the adult competition) – one kilogram of non-perishable products. Trophies will be awarded to the fisherman who caught the largest dorado; May skinfish and the largest second fish. Bonito City Hall will give the participants a 6-meter boat, a 15 hp engine. and a kayak.
The main event will start on Saturday at 7am in Praia do Salto (next to the bridge over MS-345). The fishing area will extend to Cabana do Pescador, covering about 20 km of the river. The tournament will open on Friday (13) with the distribution of kits to the participants and a show with Alma Serrana, at 20:00, in the central courtyard. The children’s test will take place on Sunday (15) at 7 am and end at 9 pm with a performance by Tradição.
