The Cais do Sertão Museum in Recife will be the meeting point for an event that began in Paris in 2016 and is taking place in over 100 cities around the world to discuss the challenges of our time.

BUT night of ideas (or La nuit des idees), in less than a decade of its existence, it has become an event of international importance. Every year, the French Institute invites the cultural and educational institutions of France and the five continents to celebrate ideas and knowledge. May 12 at Recife will hold an event at the Cais do Sertão Museum in the Recife area, where, in addition to exhibitions, art performances and master classes, conferences, meetings, forums and round tables will be held.
According to the official communiqué, the theme for the 7th World and 3rd Brazilian editions was “(Re)Build Together” due to the urgent need to deepen issues such as the resilience and recovery of societies after Covid-19. pandemic, an episode in world history that not only affected public health and the global economy, but also changed people’s lives in many ways.
Another highlight of the event is the discussion of an environmental issue in Brazil, which has broken the record for deforestation since 2019, according to the National Institute for Space Research (Inpe).
The Institute notes that the Legal Amazon has lost 11,088 km² of its vegetation cover, the highest since 2008. Faced with these unique challenges, the Night of Ideas brings messages of cooperation and solidarity between individuals, groups and nations.
According to the official note, in Brazil the topic “(Restore) Together” acquired a local look and brings together Brazilian and French artists, professionals and intellectuals. The Pernambuco edition is coordinated by the French Embassy and Consulate General and produced by Proa Cultura, in addition to the support of the Pernambuco government, Empetur, Cais do Sertão, Aliança Francesa, Instituto Cervantes, CESAR and the Cesar school.
“The fact that Recife is the only city where the event is directly coordinated by the French embassy and consulate general in the capital Pernambuco is of great importance to us – this is the first event in the northeast and in Recife, a city of innovation and great cultural richness. It will take place in the magnificent Cais do Certan Museum, a model of architecture open to the ocean, giving rise to new ideals and humanistic experiences needed to create a shared world,” they say. MONTH OF EUROPE in the North-East
This edition of the Night of Ideas is marked by the French Presidency of the Council of the European Union and, on the occasion of May, the event is part of Europe Month in the North East. This date is celebrated across the region in events that bring European partners together to celebrate the history of the European Union and the bonds that unite Europeans inside and outside Europe. From May 4, the cities of Salvador, Fortaleza, Recife, Maceio, Aracaju and João Pessoa will host events, including the open doors of European institutions, in addition to book sales, exhibitions, conferences, photography competitions and product fairs. Europeans. The Night of Ideas will last approximately 7 hours and is free and open to the public. Singer, songwriter, vocal consultant and actor Carlos Ferrera offers dialogue and exercises with the members, starting with the question CAN WE ALL SING? The event will be divided into 3 parts, which include: Conversation with the public – in order to get acquainted with the possibility of singing and exchange knowledge and experience; Practices – with the basic concepts of vocal work, where participants can understand a little more the construction of singing and speaking voice; and “Considerations” – the moment when the participants and the speaker will be asked to say or sing something that is very important at the current moment. Claudio Nascimento, Director of Digital Transformation of the Secretariat of Science, Technology and Innovation of the Government of Pernambuco, presents news on innovation in smart and creative city models at the content exhibition. Intended for the general public.

Presentation of a project carried out by Coletivo in partnership with the French Embassy and with the remote participation of the artist Manoel Quiterio, aimed at the general public.
